UCEA is involved in a number of sector specific Health and Safety initiatives for the HE Sector. These include:
UCEA and USHA recently produced a joint publication on guidance on Health and Safety in Fieldwork. The project has been selected as a finalist in the Partnership Initiative of the Year category in the SHP IOSH Awards 2011.
UCEA works closely with the Universities Safety and Health Association (USHA), an organisation for the promotion of safety and health in higher education. USHA's mission is to ensure the wellbeing of university staff, students and visitors through the promotion of health and safety in higher education.
Joint work between UCEA and USHA has included the production of Health and Safety Guidance for the placement of Higher Education students.
The HESH Forum is a tripartite structure between UCEA, the trade unions and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to look at workplace safety and health issues in Higher Education. The Forum develops partnership working between employer and employee representatives and provides strategic oversight on matters of occupational safety and health.
From October 2011, UCEA has taken on stewardship of the HE Sector's work on wellbeing and engagement, following the end of the project ‘Improving performance through wellbeing and engagement’.
UCEA was part of the steering group for the project, which was run out of the university of Leeds and had been in receipt of funding from the Sector funding councils, but which ceased in September 2011.
