Shared Parental Leave

Entitlement to Shared Parental Leave (SPL) applies to the mothers and fathers of babies born on or after 5 April 2015, or who are matched or placed for adoption from that date.

HE employers who operate existing enhanced contractual maternity and paternity leave schemes are considering their options for the new scheme. UCEA is asking for views on this from across the sector and will publish the results when available. For more information, please see the UCEA overview of employer options:

Shared parental pay - employer options

Employers and employees will need to get to grips with the new rules, since it affects all new parents. Employees began receiving notices of entitlement to SPL in January 2015 (see Section 6.1 of the UCEA Briefing available below).

An ACAS guide has been published advising on good practice.
