Working in Partnership Project

The Joint Working Project was designed to help promote positive employee relations at an institutional level. It assisted institutions at many levels and helped develop some of the skills necessary for building good employee relations locally. It additionally ran a series of seminars delivering joint training in conducting equal pay reviews and a range of other areas.

Partnership Toolkit

Partnership Toolkit

The Partnership Toolkit offers HE institutions both diagnostic and practical guidance elements:

• it can be used to audit the current level of joint and partnership working; and
• it can be used to support institutions in progressing to joint working.

The toolkit was produced in 2006 to support institutions in developing partnership working necessary to implement the Framework Agreement for the Modernisation of Pay Structures. The toolkit was developed by the Work Foundation as part of the Working in Partnership project, funded by HEFCE and the Welsh and Scottish HE funding councils. The first phase consisted of funded consultancy support for institutions, followed by the toolkit in the second and final phase.

The Framework Agreement placed particular importance on the need for HE institutions to employ joint and partnership working to conclude successful negotiations and increase both capacity and effectiveness in this area. The Framework Agreement defined partnership as “negotiating to reach an agreement on a timely basis”; although, the toolkit describes partnership working in broader terms (see page 9 – “Definitions”).
