UCEA media statement on the pay dispute 4 November 2013

A UCEA spokesperson said: “UCEA, on behalf of the 150 participating HE employers, will be replying to UCU's most recent letter and, as always, we will repeat our willingness to have talks with them and any of the other three unions in dispute.

We do not conduct our talks through the media and we would be surprised that any trade unions would wish to either. We have had repeated meetings over the period since the final offer, due at 1 August 2013, was made. We have explained in great detail why our employers remain clear that the 1% pay uplift for all is a good and sustainable offer at the limit of affordability. UK economic conditions remain tough and HEIs continue to operate in a challenging and uncertain environment. It is important to remember that the offer of joint work around the gender pay gap, casual contracts and flexible working also addresses important issues that have been raised by the unions.”
