The future of work, health and disability

The future of work, health and disability is UCEA’s annual conference which brings together sector colleagues with who have a professional role in delivering health and safety and wellbeing initiatives within HE intuitions.

This year’s conference programme has been developed in light of the report Improving lives: the future of work, health and disability which sets out how the Government will work with employers, charities, healthcare providers and local authorities to break down employment barriers for disabled people and people with health conditions over the next 10 years. The Government’s plans will be delivered through in-work programmes, personalised financial and employment support, and specialist healthcare services to help more people go as far as their talents will take them.

Our conference will explore what HE employers need to consider in light of the Government’s plans, which include taking forward all 40 recommendations of the Stevenson/Farmer review of mental health and employers. Employers are a central part of plans which include, for example, establishing a framework for large employers to voluntarily report on mental health and disability within their organisations.

Policy level speakers at the conference will speak alongside colleagues from HR, organisational development and wellbeing teams, who will outline their current work to support employees’ physical and mental wellbeing and share their own HEI’s approach to some of the issues in focus.

Discussions will encourage delegates to explore what more their institutions will need to being doing to meet the Government’s expectations.

The conference will be of interest to:

  • HR professionals
  • Organisational development professionals
  • Occupational health physicians and practitioners
  • Health and safety professionals

Others colleagues responsible for supporting staff health and wellbeing in higher education institutions.

Speakers are confirmed from the Department for Work and Pensions/Department of Health and Social Care, the CBI, UCEA, the University of Exeter and the University of Essex.
