Managing the academic workforce: Global challenges and opportunities was a major international two-day conference that took place on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 July 2012 which explored and debated the challenges facing higher education providers and their impact upon the management of the academic workforce.
The conference programme was developed in partnership with UCEA’s counterparts in Canada - CAUBO/Faculty Bargaining Services - and Australia – the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association (AHEIA).
With CEO level representation from AHEIA, CAUBO/Faculty Bargaining Services and UCEA and delegates and speakers from 13 countries - Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jamaica, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the USA - the conference facilitated debate around the common challenges facing HE employers, and provided a unique opportunity to explore the operation and experience from overseas of different bargaining frameworks. The event was also supported by the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
