Implementing the protection of certain accrued employment rights linked to continuous service in accordance with the 'Principles and Obligations'

This case study provides an overview of how the University of Leeds has implemented the “UK Clinical Academic Training in Medicine and Dentistry: Principles and Obligations” published in January 2017. This case presents the strategies used by the University of Leeds to recognise continuous reckonable service and avoid any detriment for clinical academics who move from being employed by the NHS to the University of Leeds and vice versa as part of their integrated clinical academic training. This case also addresses some of the institutional challenges of this implementation.

This case study looks at how the University of Cambridge has introduced the new pay system for junior doctors and presents the five new categories of trainee identified when implementing the transitional arrangements.
