Researchers

The European Charter constitutes a framework for researchers, employers and funders which invites them to act responsibly and as professionals within their working environment. It sets the standard by which each of the constituent member states establishes good practice in both research and the employment practices of organisations that employ researchers.

In response to the European Charter and a number of changes in employment law, such as the Fixed Term Employment Regulations, the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers was established in 2008. A review of the Concordat was undertaken in 2018 and a revised Concordat is expected to be published in March 2019.

Review of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers

The Expert Review Panel tasked with reviewing the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers has published its final report which includes several recommendations on how to update and improve the Concordat.

A consultation based on the findings and recommendations of the report was launched in October 2018 and UCEA held two events to gather feedback from its members. A report from these events is available below.
