New JNCHES Strategic Issues Conference

UCEA hosts an annual New JNCHES Strategic Issues Conference each spring, organised jointly with the five main sector trade unions (GMB, EIS, UCU, Unite and UNISON). Attendees have an opportunity to hear from heads of HE sector agencies, trade unionists, and experts in industrial relations, employment, pay and pensions.

The aim is to provide a forum to share views and to achieve some shared understanding of key policy issues by both HE employers and staff representatives ahead of the start of the New JNCHES pay negotiation round.

Feedback from previous editions of this conference includes:

  • “This was an outstandingly successful day with excellent speakers and lively discussion in a collegial environment. It certainly enabled me to look at the sector through the eyes of others. I would like to thank UCEA and Trades Union colleagues for organising what has now the status of a regular event.” Professor Sir Paul Curran, UCEA Chair
  • “I thought the session was a good opportunity to explore the strategic issues, particularly those raised by the fees deals. I enjoyed the input from others which I found very thought provoking.” David Belsey, National Officer, EIS
  • "It was particularly useful to have a range of perspectives from trade unions, employers and government - it is not often they are all on the same platform." Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive, Universities UK
