UCEA Senior Staff Survey

Since 1993 UCEA has conducted an annual survey covering the remuneration of senior staff from professor to heads of institution at participating higher education institutions.

The survey report is based on confidential information provided by institutions and provides a pay analysis of senior and middle managers in universities and colleges of higher education. Salary tables are provided by responsibility level, function group, institution type, institution size, cost centre, discipline, region and mission/sector group.

We also hold salary survey user group meetings annually for members. The purpose of these meetings is to ensure that our survey reports continue to be relevant and useful to members while balancing the effort and time required for members to gather the data.

The 2017 report is now published. 

2017 report

The published 2017 survey report covering 145 institutions and over 28,000 senior staff is now available to nominated recipients of participating HEIs. The report is available in four formats; print, PDF, Excel and Tableau Reader.

UCEA member HEIs that have not participated can purchase the 2017 report bundle at £1,750 plus VAT. A special bundle rate of £675 plus VAT was offered to participating HEIs. This covers the cost of UCEA conducting the survey, analysing the data and producing the report in four formats.

The cost of obtaining survey data of this kind from a private sector provider would be considerably higher. By participating in this survey, institutions benefit from access to a large and unique source of information at a modest charge.
