Barry Miller

Barry is Senior Policy Advisor on Labour Relations in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic at York University in Canada. He is a member of the tenured faculty at York University and became involved with academic negotiations during his term as an Associate Dean. He transitioned from Associate Dean to director, later executive director, of Faculty Relations, which role he held from January 2001 until July 2017. He now has the role of Senior Policy Advisor on Labour Relations in the Office of the Provost, supporting the senior leadership on a range of strategic and policy matters, including negotiations. During his term as head of Faculty Relations, he was University lead in at least 18 rounds of negotiations with 4 academic unions representing eight bargaining units, including CUPE 3903 Units 1, 2 and 3. These negotiations resulted in 27 renewal collective agreements and 4 first agreements. Barry has also participated in non-academic staff negotiations, including as University lead.


Barry will contibuting to the Our post docs and teaching assistants: what are Canadian and US institutions doing? workshop with Dr Daniel J. Julius, Provost and Senior Vice President at New Jersey City University on Wednesday 10 July.
