Core mediation skills for leaders, managers and HR professionals is a very practical one-day UCEA workshop designed to give attendees the skills and confidence needed to intervene effectively when conflict develops, and to conduct a mediated intervention in the most commonly experienced work scenarios.
This workshop is aimed at those who have had no formal training in mediation skills or conflict management, or those who have previously received training and are seeking a refresher.
The workshop leader has extensive experience in delivering certificated mediation training in mediation skills within the HE sector and has consistently received excellent feedback from previous participants. She mediates regularly for HEIs across the UK.

- Mediation: what it is, the role of the mediator and how to use a collaborative approach to resolving conflict.
- The key mediation skills and techniques to help shift parties from seemingly intractable positions to interests and common needs.
- A robust process to support you and the parties.
- A blend of theory with activities and practical tools.
- Discussions around case study scenarios where mediation skills can be used.
- Demonstration of mediation skills.
- The opportunity to put the skills into practice through role play and other practical exercises.
- Small group and paired work.

The workshop takes place on Wednesday 5 February and will run from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm (registration from 9.00 am). It will take place at a central London venue.
