UCEA and Universities UK (UUK) submitted joint responses to the sector leads for the key sectors identified in the Industrial Strategy as follows:
• Life Sciences
• Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
• Financial Services sector
• Adanced Manufacturing sector
• Clean Energy
• MAC (critical cross-cutting SOC codes which do not map clearly to a sector lead or which cut across multiple sectors).
The submissions draw on the responses from HEIs to UCEA’s Stage 2 survey and focus on the occupations which members consistently identified as critical.

UUK and UCEA submitted a response to the MAC's call for evidence on the shortage occupation list (SOL). UUK and UCEA also wrote to Professor Brian Bell, chair of the MAC, to express members’ concerns about changes to the eligibility criteria for inclusion on the SOL.

In May 2020 the MAC consulted with employers on shortage occupations which fall within RQF level 3 - 5 (medium skill). UCEA published a response to the MAC consultation which aligned with the response from Universities UK.
