Event overview

What to expect?
Led by a senior employment law solicitor with over 30 years’ experience, who has been delivering training for UCEA for over 20 years, the workshop will give participants an understanding of the principles and main provisions of employment law through real-life case studies largely based on examples from the higher education sector, PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, and polls to create an interactive learning experience. Participants can discuss real-world issues with an expert legal tutor and peers from across the higher education sector while building valuable professional connections.

The workshop provides a practical introduction to the key principles of UK employment law and their application in everyday HR practice. It explores essential employment rights, contracts, equality, dismissal, flexible working, employee relations, organisational change, and emerging legislative developments, including the Employment Rights Act 2025.

Why attend?
By the end of the course, participants will have acquired an understanding of recent and emerging employment law developments to be able to:
  • Support legally compliant decision-making by applying the key principles of UK employment law to common workplace situations.
  • Provide informed advice to managers on a range of employment law issues, including recruitment, equality, dismissal, redundancy, and employee relations.
  • Contribute to reducing organisational risk by recognising potential legal issues and promoting fair, consistent, and compliant HR practices
Attendees will receive workshop materials for future reference.
