UCEA appoints new Chief Executive designate

Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Raj Jethwa as its new Chief Executive designate who will commence in the role on 17 February 2020*.  

Raj currently works as the Director of Policy at the British Medical Association (BMA) where he has worked in different capacities since 2013. Raj currently leads a directorate supporting the BMA's policy development, representative activities and national negotiations, managing relationships with key stakeholders including NHS Employers, trade unions and the Royal colleges. 

Raj is widely experienced through roles at a diverse range of previous employers, including the Police Federation of England and Wales and the Trades Union Congress. He is a post-graduate in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science and is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Business and Law at Kingston University.

Raj said: “I am very much looking forward to leading UCEA and its highly talented team as well as supporting its members in these times of significant change for higher education and beyond. I wish to take forward this very highly valued sector organisation and develop UCEA’s work with the trade unions and other sector stakeholders still further.”

* UCEA’s current Chief Executive Helen Fairfoul will be leaving at the end of 2019
