Immigration: Key considerations when recruiting from overseas

Immigration: Key considerations when recruiting from overseas examines, from an immigration perspective, how to recruit staff from overseas.

The workshop content has been refreshed to cover the new immigration system rules and the delivery has been reframed to meet the demands of online learning. Following its successful re-launch in February as two, three-hour sessions over two days, we’re pleased to announce the next run which is taking place on Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 April between 10 am and 1 pm each day

The workshop is pitched at a level that will suit both experienced practitioners and ‘new starters’, so it serves both as a ‘health check’ for those already working in this area and as an introduction for those who are new to this area.

The online workshop, which will be of benefit to all staff responsible for staff immigration, is facilitated on UCEA’s behalf by Graeme Ross, the Immigration and Compliance Manager at the University of Cambridge and Simon Kenny, Principal Associate, at Eversheds Sutherland both of whom are experts on recruiting HE staff from overseas and have delivered training for UCEA for over four years.

Together they will give hints and tips on how to deal pragmatically with a range of scenarios as well as highlighting relevant legal issues. Examples of some of the areas covered are:

  • SWV applications including - In country and overseas application processes; IHS; Don’t forgets, e.g. TB certificate, Police registrations; Visa conditions and Supplementary employment.
  • Other relevant immigration routes - Visitors; Permitted paid engagements; Temporary Worker (GAE T5); Employing Student visa holders and Global Talent Visa.
  • Employer’s responsibilities - Sponsor duties and Right to work checks.

Individual attendees need to attend both half day sessions over the two days to reap the full benefit of attending.
For the benefit of attendees, we are limiting attendance to a maximum of 40 attendees.
