The employment of clinical academics: current and future issues conference

We are delighted to be offering as an online half-day event, this very popular ‘annual’ conference for HEI and NHS colleagues responsible for policy and practice around the employment of clinical academic staff. It is taking place on the morning of Wednesday 2 February starting at 10.00 am and ending no later than 1.00 pm.

The conference explores strategic workforce and employment issues for HEIs and NHS bodies that employ academic doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. It will reflect on the implications for employment policies and practices and importantly bring together those with a direct interest in the employment and management of clinical academic staff. 

Professor Debra Humphris, Vice-Chancellor, University of Brighton and Chair of UCEA’s Clinical Academic Staff Advisory Group will chair the conference. 

The conference will cover the following issues:
  • Employment Law / case law update including mandatory vaccinations for clinical academics/staff working in the NHS which will be delivered by Helen Mortlock, Partner, Eversheds Sutherland
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in Academic Medicine which will be delivered by Roshan Israni, Deputy Chief Executive and Becky Gregg, Research Analyst, UCEA
  • Attracting / recruiting clinical academics: Current issues, threats and opportunities by Professor Paul Stewart, Adviser on Health Policy & Research and Professor of Medicine, University of Leeds
  • How to support and promote career pathways for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health academics will be delivered by Jane Coad, Professor of Nursing, University of Nottingham and Chair of Clinical Academic Roles and Career Pathways Implementation Network (CARIN)
  • Pensions for Clinical Academics and other academic health professionals which will be delivered by Emelda Nicholroy, UCEA’s Head of Pensions Policy
