A-Z of Employing Clinical Academics - A Workshop for HR Specialists with Medical and Dental Schools

This online workshop will run from 10.00 am – 1.00 pm on Wednesday 6 December and will cover the essentials of employing clinical academic doctors and dentists in HEIs. It is aimed at those who would like a comprehensive introduction to this area and may also be useful to HR professionals who wish to refresh their knowledge of issues surrounding the recruitment and employment of clinical academic doctors and dentists.

This workshop will cover much the same material as previously but will now include updated information on clinical excellence awards and other considerations that impact on clinical academics from an employment perspective, as follows:
  • Joint working with the NHS (the Follett principles)
  • Substantive and honorary contracts
  • Licensing and revalidation
  • Pay (consultants and trainees/junior doctors)
  • Developments in excellence awards
This event, led by Nicola Carter, Senior Consultant (Employment Policy) at UCEA, will take participants through the key issues that HR colleagues involved in the employment lifecycle of clinical academics need to be fully aware of.
If you are new to this employment area, or would welcome a re-cap on key issues to use as an institutional ‘checklist’, this event will be relevant to you. There will be opportunities to ask questions and clarify issues throughout the event.
