Clinical Academic Staff - Strategic Issues Conference

This is our very popular annual conference for HEI and NHS colleagues responsible for policy and practice around the employment of clinical academic staff, taking place as a one-day, in-person event in central London on Wednesday 31 January 2024.

The conference explores strategic workforce and employment issues for HEIs and NHS bodies that employ academic doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. It will reflect on the implications for employment policies and practices and importantly bring together those with a direct interest in the employment and management of clinical academic staff.

Confirmed sessions are as follows:
  • NHS pay and workforce issues - Jeremy Orr, Head of Medical Contracts, NHS Employers
  • Future-proofing UK Health Research – The Academy of Medical Sciences report and the implications for the clinical academic workforce - Professor David Adams FMedSci, Emeritus Professor of Hepatology and formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Brimingham.
  • The Reality of Negotiating New Clinical Academic Contracts for Nurses, Midwives and AHPs - Professor Michelle Briggs, Clinical Professor of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, University of Liverpool and Deputy Chair of CARIN, Council of Deans of Health
  • Employment aspects of the NHS pension scheme retirement flexibilities - Helen Mortlock, Legal Director, Education, Eversheds Sutherland & Carey Southward, Head of Pensions & Benefits, Imperial College London
