UCEA Annual Conference on Clinical Academic staff: Strategic issues

This one-day, in-person conference in central London on Wednesday 5 February is for HEI and NHS colleagues responsible for policy and practice around the employment of clinical academic staff.

The conference explores strategic workforce and employment issues for HEIs and NHS bodies that employ academic doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. It will reflect on the implications for employment policies and practices and importantly bring together those with a direct interest in the employment and management of clinical academic staff.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Jenny Higham, Vice Chancellor, University of Suffolk and Chair of UCEA’s Clinical Academic Staff Advisory Committee.

  • Follett Principles for Nurses & Midwives - Alison Richardson, NHS England & Professor Anne-Maree Keenan, Former Associate Dean of the NIHR Academy (Infrastructure)
  • Reversing the Decline of Medically Qualified Researchers in the UK - Professor Patrick Chinnery, Executive Chair, Medical Research Council  
  • Perspectives from a new Medical School - opportunities and challenges - Scott Wilkes, Head of School of Medicine, University of Sunderland
  • Update on legal issues and recent cases - Helen Mortlock, Legal Director, Eversheds Sutherland
  • Round table discussions - providing insightful discussions and valuable networking opportunities to explore the future of clinical academic employment

Timings, attendance fee and how to book
The conference will take place between 10.00 am and 3.30 pm on Wednesday 5 February 2025.

The member attendee price is £449 (VAT free) per place. Until 5.00 pm on Monday 20 January, a special early-bird price of £425 (VAT free) is available. When you book you have the option of paying for a place by credit/debit card or to be invoiced.
