Commenting on the publication of the Independent Review of the Office for Students, Raj Jethwa UCEA’s Chief Executive said:
“We welcome the publication of Sir David Behan’s Independent Review of the Office for Students, particularly the recommendation for a focus on the current financial sustainability of the sector. We also welcome the recognition of the challenges facing HEIs from rising staffing costs and the significant impact of increases in TPS pension costs*, as these are now at breaking point. These have worrying consequences for the ability of a substantial group of HE institutions to enhance student experience and promote economic wellbeing in their cities and regions.”
*TPS employer contributions in England and Wales have increased from 16.48% to 28.68% of pay since 2019
